4 Beauty Care Tips for 50 and Older

There are many things that change in your body as you hit 50 or surpass it. Things that you did to care for your body in your 20’s or even your 30’s may not work for your current stage in life. If you’ve been diligent in your youth with taking care of yourself, then 50 year old you is probably thanking 20 year old you. Either way, here are 5 tips that will help you care for yourself so you look and feel younger than your age dictates.

Sunscreen

If you follow our blogs, then you’re familiar with our constant lecturing of sunscreen. But it’s an undeniable fact, sun exposure ages skin. Even if you aren’t spending a lot of time in the sun, if it’s consistent, then you should have sunscreen on. Perhaps, during winter you don’t want to apply sunscreen when you’re just going outside for a bit. That’s okay, but use moisturizer with SPF included. Or, if you’re an avid makeup wearer, consider a foundation or base with SPF included, then you won’t have to worry about remembering to apply sunscreen first.

Hydration and Nutrition

The best skin is hydrated skin. You can hydrate the skin with your food choices, in addition to drinking water. So many foods contain a lot of water and will hydrate your body. These foods include berries, melons, cucumbers, bell peppers, and lettuce. If you incorporate these foods into your daily diet, as well as, increase your water intake, your skin will be glowing before you know it. Lastly, be sure to apply a hydrating cream to your face, concentrating on around your eyes twice a day. This will help keep wrinkles at bay.

Embrace Change

If you’ve been coloring or lightening your hair to hide grey, consider embracing the grey and going natural. This may require you getting out of your comfort zone, but you may find that you enjoy it more. Have you noticed that your metabolism has changed? While this may be frustrating, you should embrace it and work to learn how to live with these changes. Furthermore, muscle loss is a very real problem with people over 40. Start a regular fitness regimen, whether that looks like working out at the gym, taking up a weight-lifting class, or hiring a fitness trainer; be sure to include resistance weight lifting to keep your muscles and strength.

Hair

Another challenge with increasing chronologically is thinning hair. If you’re struggling with thinning hair, there are solutions. There are definitely natural solutions like vitamins and scalp massages. Additionally, extensions are another solution.
