Why men should get facials too

Okay, men, we know you’ve probably been feeling a little neglected and all we can say is, we’re sorry. But this post is for YOU! Healthy skin is not gender specific. You’ve got needs too and we’re here to help! We’re going to tell you why you should be getting facials too and what to expect.

Do I need to do anything before?

There’s no need to add any new products or procedures to your regimen prior to coming in for a facial. The facial is meant to be sort of a ‘deep cleaning’ if you will. So if you do something like a mask or a scrub before your facial, your skin might be too sensitive when you come in. Scrubs and masks take off layers of dead skin, which is part of the facial process. If you take off the top (dead) layer of skin prior to getting your facial treatment, you might have additional redness or even an adverse reaction.

What to expect during the facial

If you’ve never gotten a facial before, it’s time to change that! Not only is it super beneficial to your skin, it’s a great way to relax and treat yourself! A typical facial will last about an hour, unless you add treatments. The esthetician will talk to you about your daily regimen and what kind of products you use. Then they will use a cleanser that is specific to your skin type. They might even use an enzyme to help with exfoliating the skin and reducing inflammation.

What are the benefits?

We’ve posted about the benefits of facials before, and there really isn’t a difference for men compared to women. However, there is one difference worth noting. Because men grow hair on their face and many men shave that hair off, they have an increased number of ingrown hairs. These can be very bothersome, and sometimes, painful. Dead skin build up can cause more ingrown hairs, so we recommend regular exfoliation.
